Do you see what I see?

Apart from the two obvious similarities, both Douglas Coupland and Kaliber 10000 are sites on this whirlwind device we call the "web", the two sites don't appear to look all that similar to each other. From the initial load-in, Coupland looks like a minimalist's dream. The easy on the eyes, centered design is the type of page where it could really be hit-or-miss with your audience. Either you do not like having to "click around" to find what you need or you like to experiment and have the time to discover the many facets of the author. Not necessarily a disadvantage, this definitely works for the author/artist in question because you could experience a lot more than if you initially came looking for one bit of information. Why this is the chosen design? I suppose the designer could be taking advantage of the fact the site is more of a portfolio than a content-driven visual jumble. The minimalism is effective in being a rebellious reaction, I think, to most sites around today. Less is more as they

On the other hand, Kaliber 10000 is the kind of design that drives the ADD (attention deficit per se) crowd of today. Being a pro-PC person myself, I believe being able to right-click and open info in a new window is a "tool of the gods". Sorry Mac folks but these types of sites is how we lose touch with the homepage in the first place! The colours work in this set-up and deceive your eyes into thinking the amount of print on the index is manageable. Interestingly enough, the page acknowledges the blog trend by designing the Newsfeed accordingly. Smart move!
